COMMUNITY SCHOOLS                        

Community schools have been set up in six communities in an area of  25 square Kilo meters and are extensions of the main school. Over 300 children attend these schools.

We provide an environment where every child and their family feel safe, secure and nurtured; where each child's self esteem is developed and where their play is valued as meaningful learning experiences. Our staffs are qualified and registered teachers. All of our teachers are competent and confident educators who all have many years of experience working with young children and their families. We provide comprehensive childcare and educational services for children between the ages of 06 months to 5 years; ensure their healthy development and growth. We provide systematic health, hygiene and nutrition programmes for this same age group.

THE EDUCATION PROGRAMME AT DIVYA SHANTHI COMMUNITY CENTER

We provide comprehensive aid and care to poor and needy children to enable them to pursue and complete their educations to as high a level as they desire and are capable of achieving. Providing an early childhood care, education and nutritional support, especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children living in the urban slums in and around Lingarajapuram, like New Lingarajapuram, Baglur & Venkateshpuram, and rural Villages like Naganahalli.

DIVYA SHANTHI DOORSTEP/ Non Formal Education 

Door Step education or non formal education  provides education and support to the often-forgotten children of pavement dwellers, slum dwellers, construction site families and many other underprivileged families. Many of these children are not enrolled in school and have limited access to books and a place to study. Additionally, many children drop out of school to work or care for younger children. With neither support nor resources at home some children also suffer from very low learning levels. We are trying to bridge this gap by bringing education to the "Door Step" of these underprivileged children. The aim of the Non Formal Education programme is to give the child the basic literacy and numerically skills and also the information and knowledge that are relevant to his/her social situation. Also keeping in mind that the children have to enter the mainstream of education, we help to prepare them so that they can gain admission into regular schools of their choice.

 DIVYA SHANTHI ADULT LITERACY:

The Divya Shanthi Community Adult Literacy is committed to the improvement of adult literacy among the backward communities in parts of Bangalore Urban (Lingarajapuram, New Lingarajapuram, Baglur, and Venkateshpuram) Bangalore rural (Naganahalli, Hosur Bande, and Razakpalyam). We believe that adults who would like to improve their literacy skills should be able to access free tuition if they so desire. This service is free of charge and is offered by our social workers who work on a group ranging from a 5 to 10 women basis. The service is designed primarily for basic adult literacy needs and welcomes all adults regardless of their socio-economic status, age, religion, educational background, disability, who want to improve their literacy skills. We have around 20 women at Hosur Bande attending this programme; we enjoy sharing remarkable stories about the women.

The nutritional support programme is part of the healthcare programme. The adults men, women and pregnant ladies are registered from the different clinics conducted and recommended by the medical staff. The programmes assists these anemic men, women and pregnant women to have cooked food and this is distributed by the social workers and local carers, this is personally supervised by the staff every day, Pregnant ladies are also given an egg and milk daily.
