Divya Shanthi Trust is engaged in vocational training for Youth from the poorest backgrounds in South India since 1975. It has set up vocational training programme for young women in tailoring, embroidery and garment making, for the young men in tool making, machining, metal fabrication and fibre glass moulding trades, for young men and women in motorcycle and car repairs and maintenance.
Some Vocational training programme like the tailoring, motorised vehicle repairs followed state reocgnised syllabi and the students received state recognised certificates. Other training programmes received certificates given by the state. The trainees were also part of the production centre and worked on producing goods for the market.
The tailoring, garments and the leather work unit have survived since their beginning in 1975 raising most of their costs through sales and fees. The others closed after 15 years as the market condition changed and we could not adapt quickly.
