SANGAMS (Self Help groups)
A Sangam is an organized group of 15 to 19 members. Our rural members monthly savings (thrift) are between Rs.35 to 50 and our urban members monthly savings amount to Rs.20/- The group meets twice a month. One day is allotted to collect the thrift and for loan disbursements and the other day is to discuss social issues.
·The women are given loans to pay off old debts, medical expenses, children's education fees and micro businesses.
The Sangam are our basic unit of community involvement. In 2007 there were 70 groups with 1400 members. |
